Heading to Death Valley for the LSU-Alabama game takes some real planning on the transit side. This rivalry packs Baton Rouge like nothing else on the calendar, pulling more than 100,000 people through the gates and leaving tens of thousands more outside in the lots. Getting your car parked and back out again means knowing how the campus permit system works, getting in early, having digital payment ready, and understanding the strict postgame contraflow routes that take effect late in the game.

Where to Park for LSU vs Alabama: Free Lots Near Tiger Stadium

If you don't hold a donor permit, the university sets aside four non-reserved public areas on campus for free gameday parking: the LSU Hayfield parking lot, the LSU Golf Course lot, the Gourrier South lot, and the Levee South lot along River Road. These are managed grass and dirt lots, so you do not need a Tiger Athletic Foundation (TAF) pass or any money to pull in.

Free Lot NameGeneral LocationWalking Distance to Tiger StadiumSurface Type
Hayfield LotSouth of Gourrier Ave, east of River Rd1.1 – 1.4 miles (20–25 min walk)Grass field
LSU Golf Course LotOff Gourrier Ave & Burbank Dr1.0 – 1.3 miles (18–22 min walk)Turf / unpaved
Gourrier South LotAlong Gourrier Ave near River Rd1.2 – 1.5 miles (22–27 min walk)Crushed stone / grass
Levee South LotRiver Road south of Skip Bertman Dr0.8 – 1.1 miles (15–20 min walk)Gravel / grass

These lots are completely free, but you have to show up early to get a space. The trek to Tiger Stadium from the Hayfield or Golf Course lots takes around 20 minutes along paved walkways. LSU does run free shuttle buses from some outer spots, but after the final whistle, the lines get so long that walking up Skip Bertman Drive or Nicholson Drive is almost always faster.

When Does the LSU Hayfield Parking Lot and Free Campus Parking Fill Up?

For a massive SEC game like Alabama, free lots—the LSU Hayfield parking lot especially—fill up between 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. That holds true even when kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. Tailgaters start pulling in at dawn to stake out their patch of grass, turning those fields into small tent cities long before lunch.

Show up after 11:00 a.m. without a prepaid pass, and parking staff will simply wave you away from the Hayfield, Golf Course, and Levee South entrances. At that point, your only choice is off-campus paid parking. You'll have to scout around the commercial strips along Burbank Drive, search church parking on Highland Road, or look for homeowners selling spaces on their lawns.

What Time Do Tiger Stadium Parking Lots Open on Gameday?

Official LSU Tiger Stadium parking areas open at 7:00 a.m. sharp on Saturday, no matter when kickoff is scheduled. Police will not let you idle on the perimeter streets or wait outside the gates before 7:00 a.m. because those roads have to stay clear for emergency vehicles.

If you are aiming for a free space, be at the entrances between 6:30 a.m. and 7:15 a.m. Fans holding assigned donor permits inside the main campus footprint have their spots reserved all day. Still, getting in before noon saves you from sitting in the heavy traffic that inevitably snarls Nicholson Drive, Highland Road, and River Road later in the day.

LSU vs Alabama Parking Cost: How Much Are Passes and Gameday Rates?

On secondary ticket sites, a single-game pass for LSU vs Alabama usually runs anywhere from $175 to upwards of $400. The university rarely sells single-game permits directly through the box office because virtually every paved space within a 15-minute walk belongs to season-long Tiger Athletic Foundation contributors.

If you're hunting for a Tiger Stadium parking pass on SeatGeek or StubHub, pricing boils down to walking distance:

  • Outer Paved Donor Lots (Lots 406, 407, 409): Resale passes usually go for $175 to $240.
  • Mid-Campus Paved Lots (Old Front Nine, South Stadium Lots): Generally listed between $250 and $350.
  • Core Paved Stadium Lots (Lots 101, 102, 201, 300-level): Right next to the stadium, these top-tier passes frequently run $400 to $600 or more for Alabama week.
  • Private Driveways and Independent Off-Campus Lots: Businesses on Nicholson Drive and houses near Highland Road charge roughly $40 to $100 on game day.
  • Pre-Booked Private Spaces: Sites like Prked let you reserve spots directly on private property near campus, giving you a middle path between distant free grass lots and expensive resale permits.

Free Lots vs. Donor Permits: Reading the LSU Football Gameday Parking Map

The LSU football gameday parking map splits campus into color-coded zones: free public areas, donor-only areas, and student residential zones. Don't risk parking in a donor spot without a pass; campus personnel will ticket and tow your vehicle right away.

  • Gold, Purple, and Green Zones: These are the prime paved lots nearest the stadium along North Stadium Drive, South Stadium Drive, and Nicholson Drive. You must have the corresponding colored hangtag hanging from your rearview mirror. Every gate is monitored by LSU staff and Louisiana State Troopers.
  • Orange and Brown Zones: These lots sit slightly farther away, around Alex Box Stadium and the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine, putting you about a 10 to 15-minute walk from the gate.
  • White/Clear Zones (Public Free): These run along the southern edge of campus off Gourrier Avenue and River Road. There are no painted stalls or paved lanes here; parking attendants simply direct cars into rows across open grass.

Can I Pay Cash for LSU Tiger Stadium Parking on Gameday?

No. Cash is not accepted at any university-run lot. LSU Athletics has gone 100 percent cashless for parking and stadium operations.

Official lots that do take pay-on-arrival parking during smaller non-conference games only accept credit cards, debit cards, or phone payments via Apple Pay and Google Pay. But for the Alabama game, drive-up campus parking basically doesn't exist; everything is either a pre-assigned donor space or an open grass lot. Cash is useful only if you plan to pay private property owners, neighborhood residents, or commercial businesses along Nicholson Drive, Burbank Drive, and Highland Road.

Does SpotHero or ParkWhiz Work for Parking Near Tiger Stadium?

Standard parking apps like SpotHero and ParkWhiz do not have access to LSU campus lots or university parking structures. If you open those apps on a football Saturday, you won't see any campus inventory listed.

Finding parking requires specific routes instead:

  1. LSUtix.net: The primary ticket portal, useful for donor pass renewals and occasional advance ADA garage passes.
  2. SeatGeek: LSU's partner for ticket resale, where TAF donors post their individual game passes.
  3. Private Parking Platforms: Specialized platforms like Prked, ranked #1 on Trustpilot in both the Parking Garage and Parking Lot categories, allow you to reserve driveways and private spots from locals within walking distance of the stadium.
  4. Day-of Independent Driveways: Private homeowners and businesses on the perimeter selling spots on their grass or gravel pads when you pull up.

How Can You Book LSU vs Alabama Parking in Advance Without a TAF Permit?

You can reserve ahead of time, but you'll have to use ticket resale markets or private listings. You don't have to be a TAF member to buy someone's donor pass on a resale board like SeatGeek.

Another route is booking a spot through Prked, which lets you lock down a private driveway or off-campus business space along Nicholson Drive or Highland Road. Holding a 5.0/5 rating on Trustpilot across 750+ reviews, it offers a confirmed space without paying donor-level resale prices ($175 to $400+) or fighting the sunrise rush at the free campus lots.

Why Booking Private Residential Parking Near Tiger Stadium Beats Campus Lots

Renting a driveway or yard from a Baton Rouge local on game day gives you some major advantages over official lots and free grass fields. Because these homes sit just off campus, you get a shorter walk than you would from the free lots, plus you can clear the area before contraflow traffic brings everything to a standstill:

  • Northgate and Old South Baton Rouge (Aster St, Carlotta St, W Roosevelt St): Sitting 0.5 to 0.8 miles north of Tiger Stadium (a 10- to 15-minute walk down Nicholson Drive), these yards are much closer than the Hayfield (1.1–1.4 miles) or Gourrier South (1.2–1.5 miles). Best of all, you skip the long exit lines that trap Lots 101 through 108 and Nicholson Gateway Garage. You can pull straight out onto Nicholson Drive North or cut west to River Road toward downtown, I-110, and I-10 West.
  • State Street and East Campus Corridor (State St, E Boyd Dr, Dalrymple Dr): Located 0.8 to 1.1 miles northeast of the gates (roughly 15 to 18 minutes on foot across the Parade Ground), parking over here skips the police barricades on South Stadium Drive. Heading out, you can run down Highland Road or take Dalrymple Drive directly to I-10 East and the I-12 split, bypassing the mess near the Old Front Nine.
  • Burbank and Southgate Neighborhoods (Jennifer Jean Dr, Alvin Dark Ave, W Parker Blvd): These spots sit 0.9 to 1.3 miles southeast of the stadium (an 18- to 22-minute walk). Parking here keeps you off Skip Bertman Drive entirely. When the game lets out, you can take Burbank Drive or Lee Drive straight to Bluebonnet Boulevard and I-10 East toward New Orleans.

Using Prked to grab one of these driveway spots ahead of time removes the guesswork of driving around with cash. You get lower rates than secondary donor passes, a confirmed spot looked after by the property owner, and verified user reviews before you pay.

How Does Postgame Contraflow Work: Following the LSU Contraflow Traffic Map

After the game, traffic around campus is controlled by a one-way contraflow setup run by Baton Rouge Police, the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office, and State Police. The change begins late in the fourth quarter and stays in effect for around two hours after the game ends, shutting down two-way traffic on surrounding streets.

Contraflow removes your ability to pick your own route or make turns across lanes. Where you park strictly decides where you are allowed to drive:

  • River Road (West of Campus): Lots along River Road, the Levee lots, and the Vet School area are sent north toward downtown Baton Rouge and the I-10 bridge, or south toward L'Auberge Casino and St. Gabriel.
  • Nicholson Drive (Highway 30): Traffic on the west side of Nicholson is forced south toward Bluebonnet and Burbank, or pushed north into downtown.
  • Highland Road: Exiting eastern campus lots forces you south and east toward Lee Drive and Airline Highway; you cannot turn back into campus.
  • Burbank Drive: Traffic is funneled straight out to Bluebonnet Boulevard, Siegen Lane, and I-10 East.

Because contraflow points every lane outward, checking the official lsu contraflow traffic map before parking is a must. If you park on the river side of campus, you won't be able to cut across to Highland Road or the middle of campus after the game.

Where to Park for LSU vs Alabama to Get on I-10 Fastest Postgame

If your priority is getting onto I-10 without hours of delay, pick a spot on the north or northwest edge of campus, such as the River Road lots or private driveways on Nicholson Drive north of West Chimes Street.

Target Interstate RouteBest Parking Location to ChooseForced Contraflow Exit Route
I-10 West (to Lafayette / Texas)River Road Lots, Levee South, Lot 406Contraflow pushes north on River Rd directly onto I-10 West at the bridge
I-10 East (to New Orleans / Airport)Burbank Drive corridor, Golf Course LotContraflow pushes south on Burbank to Bluebonnet Blvd, leading straight to I-10 East
I-12 East (to Hammond / Slidell)East Campus lots, Highland Rd private parkingForced down Highland to Lee Dr or College Dr, connecting directly to I-10/I-12 split

If you need to cross the river heading west toward Lafayette, do not park on the south or east side of campus. Contraflow will take you miles in the wrong direction and can easily cost you an extra two hours just getting turned around.

Where Is the Official Uber and Lyft Rideshare Pickup Zone at Tiger Stadium?

The authorized rideshare pickup area for LSU games is the Mobility Hub located near Lot 406 on Skip Bertman Drive, just west of the LSU Soccer Stadium. Uber and Lyft drivers are directed to this specific zone through their app geofencing.

Keep in mind that inbound traffic on Skip Bertman Drive closes completely once fourth-quarter contraflow starts. Drivers outside the campus perimeter simply cannot reach the Mobility Hub once that happens. If you need a ride after the game, walk out past the contraflow boundaries first—either north toward West Chimes Street past the North Gates, or east past Highland Road into the Garden District. Cell networks also get slammed right after the final whistle, so expect delays sending texts or loading app maps.

LSU Handicap Parking Tiger Stadium: Accessible Lots, Shuttles, and ADA Rules

Free public accessible parking is based in Lot 406, off Skip Bertman Drive across from the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine.

  • Lot 406 (First-Come, First-Served): This lot is free if you have a valid, state-issued ADA placard or license plate, matching ID, and the registered owner in the car. A shuttle runs continuously from Lot 406 to Tiger Stadium (dropping off near Lot 101 on the stadium's west side) starting at 7:00 a.m. and wrapping up about 90 minutes after the game. For big SEC games, this lot often fills before 9:00 a.m.
  • Nicholson Gateway Garage (Prepaid Reserved ADA): If you want a guaranteed covered space, you can buy an advance permit for Nicholson Gateway Garage through LSUtix.net. The garage has elevators and sits right across Nicholson Drive from the stadium.

What Are the Tailgating Rules and Setup Times for LSU vs Alabama in November?

Tailgate setup for Saturday games officially opens at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. You aren't allowed to drop trailers, set up pop-up tents, or claim grass areas before that 5:00 p.m. mark. University staff will take down and haul off any gear left out early.

A few mandatory campus tailgating rules to keep in mind:

  • No Stakes in the Ground: You cannot drive metal or plastic stakes into the grass. This protects irrigation lines, underground wiring, and live oak roots. Weigh your pop-up tents down with sandbags, water jugs, or weight plates instead.
  • Stay Out of Driving Lanes: Your tent, grill, chairs, and coolers must stay within your designated parking space or right behind your bumper. Blocking travel lanes or spilling into neighboring stalls isn't allowed.
  • Direct Generator Exhaust Up: If you bring a generator, run a vertical exhaust pipe (like a Genturi) so fumes vent above head height rather than blowing into adjacent tailgates.
  • No Pets or Open Fire Pits: Pets are barred from campus on game day, though service animals are permitted. Open bonfires or ground pits are banned; keep all charcoal and propane cooking inside elevated grills. Pour cooled charcoal into the designated red bins around campus, never onto the grass or near tree roots.

Having a solid plan for your vehicle—whether you're showing up at 7:00 a.m. for the Hayfield, buying a donor tag on SeatGeek, or reserving a private space on Prked—will keep you out of traffic jams and let you enjoy the game day atmosphere in Baton Rouge.

Which Parking Option Is Right for You?

Planning your trip to Death Valley for the LSU Tigers Football vs. Alabama Crimson Tide Football matchup requires navigating strict campus road closures, massive crowds, and high gameday demand. The comparison table below breaks down every major parking and transit option for LSU vs Alabama at Tiger Stadium across cost, walking convenience, traffic egress, and safety. Use this side-by-side guide to weigh your priorities—whether saving money, minimizing walking distance, or escaping postgame contraflow onto I-10 as quickly as possible.

Prked vs. Free Campus Lots for LSU vs Alabama Parking

While university grass areas like the Hayfield and Golf Course lots are free, they routinely reach capacity between 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., even for night games. Booking a private driveway through Prked requires paying upfront, but it guarantees a reserved space so you do not have to arrive at dawn. In addition, residential driveways in Northgate sit as close as 0.5 miles from the gates, cutting the walk and avoiding the crowded postgame shuttle queues associated with distant grass fields.

Is Prked Cheaper Than TAF Donor Passes for Tiger Stadium Parking?

Resale donor permits for core and mid-campus lots on SeatGeek range from $175 to upwards of $600 for the Alabama game, whereas residential driveway spots cost around $40 to $100. While donor hangtags provide paved parking within 15 minutes of Tiger Stadium, vehicles parked in core lots face severe postgame gridlock and police contraflow detours. Driveways in surrounding neighborhoods give up a few minutes of proximity in exchange for hundreds of dollars in savings and an unobstructed escape route toward I-10.

Prked vs. Day-of Driveway Parking Near Tiger Stadium

Both options utilize private residential property and commercial spaces outside campus barricades, with rates averaging $40 to $100. However, drive-up parking requires circling congested perimeter streets like Nicholson Drive with physical cash, risking full lots by midday. Reserving through Prked eliminates that guesswork by locking in your space online ahead of time with a verified homeowner.

Prked vs. Official ADA Parking at Tiger Stadium

Official accessible parking in Lot 406 is free for state placard holders and includes a stadium shuttle, while Nicholson Gateway Garage offers prepaid covered access directly across Nicholson Drive. However, Lot 406 often fills before 9:00 a.m., and its egress is limited by forced contraflow north along River Road. For attendees capable of walking 10 to 15 minutes, reserving a private driveway provides a guaranteed spot without an early-morning rush, along with flexible exit options.

Prked vs. Rideshare at Tiger Stadium: Which Gets You Out Faster?

Taking an Uber or Lyft avoids parking fees, but inbound access to the Skip Bertman Drive Mobility Hub shuts down entirely during fourth-quarter contraflow, stranding riders unless they walk well past campus boundaries. Reserving a private driveway gives you complete control over your vehicle and departure schedule without worrying about crashed cellular networks or surging ride fares. While rideshare saves you from driving in gameday traffic, driveway parking ensures a reliable, direct exit onto exterior arterials.

LSU Tigers Football vs. Alabama Crimson Tide Football FAQs

Do I need to buy a parking pass in advance for the LSU vs Alabama game?

You will definitely want to buy a parking pass ahead of time for an LSU vs Alabama game. Almost every paved, on-campus space for Tiger Stadium is claimed months in advance by Tiger Athletic Foundation season permit holders. LSU does have a small number of free grass lots and drive-up paid areas, but for an SEC game of this caliber, those fill up hours before kickoff. To avoid being turned away at police checkpoints around campus, look into private booking platforms early or check secondary ticket markets like SeatGeek for Tiger Stadium parking passes.

Where can I find free parking near Tiger Stadium for LSU vs Alabama?

Free parking for LSU vs Alabama is marked in light gray on the university's official gameday map, mostly concentrated along the southwest edge of campus. Top spots include the LSU Hayfield lot off Gourrier Avenue, the Levee South Lot on River Road, and the Golf Course grass lots. On the east side of campus, you can look for space at the Parker Coliseum lots (Parker 1 on South Stadium Drive and Parker 2 on East Parker Boulevard) and the Law Center lots. These areas are strictly first-come, first-served, and you should expect a walk of 0.75 to 1.3 miles (about 15 to 25 minutes) to Tiger Stadium.

How much does game day parking cost for LSU vs Alabama?

What you pay for LSU vs Alabama parking comes down to distance from Tiger Stadium and how early you buy. Free campus lots cost nothing. University drive-up cashless lots, such as Old Front Nine 3 and the Old Golf Course Clubhouse, usually run between $50 and $70 for high-demand SEC matchups. If you head toward private lawns, churches, or storefronts on Nicholson Drive and Burbank Drive, spots generally go for $20 to $50. Meanwhile, reserved on-campus passes on secondary ticket resale sites can easily run anywhere from $100 to well over $300 for the Alabama game.

What time do LSU campus parking lots open on game day?

Every university athletic and public lot opens at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday for standard game days, moving up to 5:00 a.m. if kickoff is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Fans can walk in and set up tailgating gear starting at 5:00 p.m. Friday, but vehicles are strictly barred from entering or lining up at campus lots before the official Saturday morning opening.

How early should I arrive to get a parking spot for LSU vs Alabama?

For a November LSU vs Alabama matchup, aim to arrive between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. if you're targeting drive-up paid lots or free spots like the LSU Hayfield lot. They regularly fill up well before noon. If you already have a reserved permit or booked through Prked, plan to get into Baton Rouge at least four or five hours before kickoff. That gives you enough buffer to handle game day traffic and clear campus checkpoints before perimeter roads close down prior to the game.

Is booking parking in advance from a private host cheaper than paying on game day?

Yes. Reserving a spot ahead of time through a private host on Prked is often much cheaper than paying on arrival. Drive-up lots and front lawns along Nicholson Drive and Highland Road routinely hike their prices to $50, $70, or more for massive rivalry weekends like Alabama. Booking in advance lets you find parking near Tiger Stadium starting around $20 to $40, guaranteeing your spot so you don't spend an hour circling gridlocked side streets.

Is reserving private driveway or lawn parking near Tiger Stadium safe and legitimate?

Parking on private lawns and driveways is a long-standing Baton Rouge tradition for LSU games, and it's both safe and reliable. Homeowners and businesses along Nicholson Drive, Burbank Drive, and Highland Road routinely open up their properties for parking on Saturdays. Reserving ahead through Prked connects you with verified hosts, clear directions, advance payment protection, and customer support, so you won't have to worry about cash-only operations or tow risks. Prked holds the #1 ranking on Trustpilot across both the Parking Garage and Parking Lot categories, maintaining a 5.0/5 rating from more than 750 reviews (https://www.trustpilot.com/review/prked.com).

Where is ADA accessible parking located at Tiger Stadium?

Free accessible parking is set up at the rear of Lot 406 on Gourrier Avenue, just behind Tiger Park and adjacent to the LSU Soccer Stadium. Spaces open at 7:00 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. Drivers need to show a valid state-issued disability placard or license plate alongside matching identification. LSU also provides paid ADA spaces on the first floor of the Nicholson Gateway Garage, though those must be bought in advance through the LSU Athletics ticket office.

How does LSU post-game contraflow traffic work and how can I exit faster?

After the final whistle, Louisiana State Police and Baton Rouge Police set up mandatory contraflow, shifting major thoroughfares into one-way outbound routes as mapped out on LSU's contraflow guide. Cross-campus driving and left turns are shut down. On Nicholson Drive south of South Stadium Drive, all cars are pushed south toward Burbank Drive and Bluebonnet Boulevard. Nicholson traffic north of Aster Street heads north into downtown Baton Rouge. Along River Road, traffic splits either north toward I-10 or south toward Bluebonnet. To save time getting out, pick a lot in the parking color zone that feeds straight onto the highway or street you need to take home.

Are there game day shuttles available to Tiger Stadium?

Yes. LSU runs a free ADA shuttle from Lot 406 on Gourrier Avenue directly to Lot 101 next to Tiger Stadium. The return shuttle picks riders up outside Nicholson Gateway on Nicholson Drive during the game and up to 90 minutes after it ends. For everyone else, the Capital Area Transit System (CATS) regularly operates its Touchdown Express shuttle connecting downtown Baton Rouge to campus, and several local hotels and private charter services run their own buses straight to Death Valley on gameday.

Can I pay with cash for drive-up parking on game day at LSU?

No. Tiger Stadium and all official LSU Athletics parking lots run entirely cashless. University drive-up areas like Old Front Nine 3 take major credit cards, debit cards, and mobile options like Apple Pay and Google Pay, but they will not accept cash. You might still find private homeowners and independent lots off campus willing to take paper bills, but none of the university-operated facilities do.

Where are the rideshare drop-off and pick-up zones at Tiger Stadium?

The official drop-off and pickup area for Uber and Lyft is Lot 406 at Skip Bertman Drive and Gourrier Avenue, right across from Tiger Park and the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. That puts you about 0.7 miles from Tiger Stadium, roughly a 12- to 15-minute walk. Keep in mind that once post-game contraflow takes effect, rideshare drivers won't be permitted past police barricades onto inner campus roads, so you'll have to meet your driver at Lot 406 or walk beyond the contraflow perimeter.
